Capt. John Cutting,Master,from Ipswitch,county Suffolk,England on 10 April 1634. Thomas Sherwood and his family had evidently lived in London prior to this time since his son Thomas 2 was bapt. at St. Bottlophs Church ,London,in Oct. 1630. The family landed at Cape Cod,MA during the month of July 1634.
After a short stay in Boston and Concord,MA they moved to Wethersfield and later Fairfield,CT. Thomas 1 became one of the most prominent citizens and a Deputy to the General Court of CT at Hartford from Fairfield. He was one of the original 17 settlers of Fairfield,a landed proprietor there and a member of the expedition which exterminated the Pequot Indians at the "Great Swamp Fight" at Fairfield on 13 July 1637. He died at Fairfield between 21 July and 7 Sept. 1655,the dates of the signing and the probation of his will. |
